Not sure if the activity on your Facebook, Twitter and Google+ pages matter? Turns out it does matter. A recently updated study from Searchmetrics found a correlation between strong search engine optimization (SEO) ranking and a URLs number of Shares, Likes, Tweets and +1s on social media websites.
We say correlation because the publishers caution that these factors aren’t a direct cause for higher ranking. The top five factors in SEO ranking now include +1s on Google, Facebook Shares, the number of backlinks and Facebook comments. Backlinks still carry weight, and creating quality content is also still important.
What does this mean for small businesses? It means you need to take an active role in promoting your blog article, videos and industry reports on social media websites.
Create good content and share it often. If you’ve built a strong following on social media websites, this can (indirectly) help your ranking.
